the Disney movie Sleeping Beauty, which is still watched by children and
adults. Disney tells the story of a princess from the curse that fell asleep
and then rescued by a prince. Like Disney movies in general, then Sleeping
Beauty will be analyzed using the theory of structuralism in order to produce
results good language.
Keywords : Disney's Sleeping
Beauty, the theory of structuralism.
Introduction
This
paper examines the film made from Disney's Sleeping Beauty by using the theory of structuralism. The presence
of the Disney movie-themed children at this little overlooked because of his
many films that are not designated for children. In this case the Sleeping Beauty fairy tale movie has a
function as a learning tool or just entertainment. The story has a moral,
psychological, or entertainment all structured clearly in this film.
But
in view of other Disney also affect the life of a child, the sleeping beauty The problem is, after
experiencing growth, whether the film The Sleeping
Beauty fairy tale still contains functions as Disney are trying to make the
film a fairy tale, this paper aims to prove The Sleeping Beauty that has structure or sequence of functions Similar
tales as a child.
Discussion
In
the "sleeping beauty" This
is a film that tells the story of King Arthur and his queen were awaiting the
birth of a daughter that they were waiting for a long time. After the birth of
her daughter, named aurora, at baptism king invited three fairies goodness
called flora, fauna, Merryweather, and at that time did king Arthur Hubert king
and his princes invited Philip to get engaged to the daughter of the aurora.
Then three elves favor rose to give a gift to the daughter aurora. The first
fairy flora give the gift of beauty, a fairy to a two-fauna in the sense of
giving the gift of song beautiful voice, while the third fairy Merryweather
want to give gifts suddenly there came a wicked fairy who behave well in front
of the king and queen when she was not invited by the empire. When the wicked
fairy angry he gave gifts to the daughter that while she is going to be
beautiful and graceful, before sunset on sixteenth birthday, when she poked her
finger on the spindle of the spinning wheel and she will die. When the king
heard the curse, King Arthur asks the fairies to three to cancel the curse, but
the fairy Merryweather could not undo the curse but fairy Merryweather could
give a gift to the princess aurora by changing curse daughter death with sleep
and will wake up when there was a prince who kissed her with sincere love.
Here
structuralism in general can be defined by the belief that all things can’t be
understood apart from anything else, it should be viewed in the context of a
larger structure in which it is a part. The structure in question here is the
structure imposed by the way we perceive the world and organize our
experiences, not entities objective external world that already exists [Barry
2009.45 ].
At
the beginning of the movie sleeping beauty narrator explains how the story will
begin as a prologue for adults or parents may such a thing is not an important
thing because his run was able to understand the story, but here is Disney
provides a deeper understanding for the children to understand story clarified
and as if the children read fairy tale books and the language used is different
from the Disney fairy tale past. Below is a prologue that is filmed:
“In a far away land long ago lived
a King and his fair Queen, many years had they longed for child and finally their
wish was granted. “
The
presence of fairytale movies as a form of literary work in the community modern
for this is still less recognized although it has known through the media of
television and children's story books. As part of the folklore, fairy tales
(folktale) has a variety of functions, such as a learning tool or just
entertainment. The story in the tale can contain moral, psychological, or
entertainment. Function depends on the origin tale authors, storytelling
author, reader or listener age, and so on. Parents and teachers are accustomed
to using stories to help teach you something in children or students. Fables
are also commonly used to moral teaching, but the tale is not a conscious
instrument used to educate children (Taylor, 1981:41). Children can easily
digested tale as the characters in it in accordance with the characterizations
or physical characteristics of the characters. Fables also involves prominent
characters 'unique', for example a handsome prince, animals can talk, monster,
a beautiful princess, a witch, and others. Another characteristic possessed the
tale in the form of sentence openers were used, which is usually a information
which is not known exactly when. The author will use 'once upon a time' rather
than a definitive statement. Fables are also identical with a happy ending or a
happy ending story. The Sleeping Beauty or Little Briar-Rose or in German known
with Dornröschen, the story of a princess who gets a curse asleep and was
rescued by Prince Charming. Like Disney found;
“
if Disney animators draw teenaged heroines that are " to much of a
princess," then Disney princess enact ballet roles with equally accurate
excess, an excess that renders them silent, dramatic " cardboard " [
grant 1993,253 ].
As
expressed by Ferdinand de Saussure, Saussure was a key figure in the
development of modern approaches to the study of language. Saussure
says that in the language of no fixed meaning and intrinsic, then the rationale
Saussure focuses on how language is arbitrary, relational, and arrange things,
and the way of thinking about language. [Barry, 2009, 51].
From
here we can know about many comic moments in the film center on the initial
ineptness of their main tenance : the fairy godmother forgets where she put her
magic wand; the good fairies fumble through princess Aurora’s birthday cake and
dress. Solomon describes the good fairies of sleeping beauty as “Dear, if
slightly befuddled, spinster aunts” [1989, 198]. Solomon’s observation is well
placed; animator Thomas found models for Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather while
spending time “at the supermarket observing rotund old ladies, usually at the
dog-food counter “[Thomas 1991, 105]. Disney also gave a message to the kids
not to talk to strangers it, how to be understanding of older people, Aurora in
Sleeping Beauty's daughter grew up with the simplicity of the jungle, he was
able to understand a poor farmer, although the princess Aurora jungle just want
away from the curse, but in this section Disney gives a good impression, given
his images with various jungle animals indirectly children are able to memorize
and recognize the types of animals, while the parents are also required to
accompany her children when watching sleeping beauty, because the parents have
to give an explanation of what is not understood by the children, even the part
when the prince save the princess from the bed, on his way out of a fairy
prince gets nasty obstacle, as a parent can give a sense if the fight there is
no particular reason it's not good. And when it has reached the tower prince
wakes her with a kiss and a sincere love. In this case, as a wise man we have
to explain that it is an expression of love given by the most loved.
Conclusion
Conclusion
of this analysis is able to structure all the Disney stories of Sleeping Beauty in a movie packed with
drafting language that is easy to understand children and to provide a message
to his audience in his every scene.
Here
Disney tried to convey the story of the film using language easily managed by
children as well as images and colors are varied. But it is better when the
kids watch whatever they have no guidance from parents.
